Freight and Material Delivery

The Grounds Department provides delivery service for freight not handled by Central Receiving. A Request for Facility services Form, signed by the fiscal officer, that defines all pertinent information regarding the type of freight and where it is to be delivered, must be submitted to the Facilities Operations Center to arrange for this service

Grounds Maintenance

• Policing campus for hazards, litter, debris, limbs, and animal remains
• Road, Sidewalk and Parking Lot Maintenance; filling potholes, street sweeping, and snow and ice removal
• Maintain athletic and intermural fields
• Servicing exterior garbage and recycle receptacles

Landscape Maintenance/Construction

• Lawn maintenance; mowing, trimming, seeding, sodding, renovation of turf, and selective weed control application
• Tree care; tree planting and replacement with diversity in mind, removing damaged, diseased or dead material, assessing hazardous trees, maintaining a campus tree inventory including a list of memorial trees
• Landscaping; design and installation of new planting areas, pruning, removing, and replacing shrubs and flowers, providing annual color for flower beds and planters, mulching existing plantings and select trees
• Leaf removal including clearing leaves from drains and window wells
• Landscape pest control

Other Services

• Provide staging including set up and tear down of tables and chairs for athletic and other special events
• Provide staffing to police athletic and other campus events
• Provide campus wide moving services
• Recycling services
• Asbestos abatement
• Concrete construction, removal, and repair
• Support services for SIU crafts and other SIU service departments
• Replace and maintain campus signage changes working with the campus Parking & Traffic Division
• Surplus property collection
• Maintenance of pools and fountains
• Management of contractor services for refuse collection, fire extinguishers, and tree removal
• Provide barricades, fencing, trash and recycle barrels as requested
• Campus flag inspections and replacements
