Welcome to our first-class professional custodial department. Our team of service professionals play a critical role in assisting Southern Illinois University Carbondale achieve its mission. The majority of our employees feel so strongly about their jobs at Building Services that they have made it their career. All team members are an integral part of Building Services.
Building Services is a division of Facilities & Energy Management is responsible for providing daily routine cleaning of approximately 100 buildings by maintaining over 5 million square feet of the campus’s inside space. They also provide periodic and special events cleaning. Building Services currently employs approximately 88 full-time employees which includes a Superintendent, an Office Support Specialist, a Building Service Supervisor, three Building Service Foremen, 36 Building Service Sub-Foremen, and 47 Building Service Workers. Outside of the current pandemic, Building Services typically employs approximately 50 student employees.
It has been said that a person never quits learning, and this is very true in the custodial maintenance area.
MISSION STATEMENT
We are here to serve the Southern Illinois University Carbondale community. This includes students, faculty, staff and visitors to this beautiful campus. We are not here to give mediocre service. We are here to give excellent service. Our customer's perception of us is our main barometer for gauging our performance. If our customers are unhappy, we have not done our job!
When parents of our students visit our campus, we want them to feel that whatever building they enter is the cleanest university building they have ever seen.
When we have a complaint, we will do everything in our power to make our customer happy.
We will be worthy of the good pay, good benefits, and - most importantly the confidence this distinguished university has placed on us.
