Master Clock Service

Main Content

Most clocks on campus are automatically controlled by Facilities Operations Center's master-clock computer system. Time information for the system is provided by the Naval Observatory's national time standard radio signal, WWV.

Any permanent wall-clock installed by Facilities & Energy Management that is compatible (compatible clocks will have SIMPLEX, AMERICAN, or IBM printed on the inside face) with the master-clock computer system will automatically reset and correct itself twice a day. If a compatible clock does not correct itself within a twenty-four hour period, it should be reported to the Facilities Operations Center for service.

The master-clock computer system also controls most of the outdoor area lighting (parking lot lighting, street lighting, etc.) on campus. The system automatically operates outdoor lighting and allows the Facilities Operations Center to temporarily override current settings if needed.

Outdoor area lighting malfunctions should be reported to the Facilities Operations Center.

To facilitate repairs, the following information will be needed:

  • physical location of malfunctioning light
  • the light's identification number (the brown and gold reflective stickers-usually located on the light pole itself).
