Fire Alarm System
Main Content
The University has 97 buildings that have automatic fire alarm systems. All 97 of those building systems are networked together and tied back into FOC where they are monitored via SIMPLEX Graphical and Pyrotronics Network Command Centers. FOC monitors the systems for any signs of trouble or alarm conditions that may warrant the response of Facilities & Energy Management maintenance personnel or the Carbondale Fire Department and/or SIU Department of Public Safety.
Facilities & Energy Management strives to have the best fire alarm system technology available for University facilities contingent upon yearly deferred maintenance and capital project appropriations. Any one in a University facility when a fire alarm system is activated should immediately go to the nearest exit and leave the building until the Department of Public Safety indicates it is safe to re-enter the facility.
